Heyyy . . . what if . . . they reversed the policy and said that disfellowdhipped and disassociated ones should be welcomed . . . and then reversed it a few months later, after many finally felt free to leave without repercussions. Kind of like a trap? It would strengthen the ranks, smaller but stronger.

You're description was so spot on I was literally get excited for a second thinking, 'Is this person from my congregation?!'
Literally, I'm not exaggerating or joking. But then I thought about it and the ages and marital situations you mentioned didn't match up. Uncanny nonetheless!!

Tight pants, colored socks, blue shirts, beards, wire -rimmed glasses...
by Muddy Waters intight pants, colored socks, blue shirts, beards, wire -rimmed glasses... .
does anybody remember any thing else that was once or still is proscribed against faithful j-dubs?
when brothers in our kh started wearing different colored shirts rather than white, it caused a great stir and ruckus.

Jean skirts were talked badly about by my CO, and 7 years or so later it officially appeared in print, on the pamphlet about proper dress and grooming at Bethel. -

Mustaches used to be allowed only for non Caucasians, like African American and Mexican. -

Jeb Bush would kill a baby !
by Simon inok, specifically he was talking about hitler.
apparently he was asked whether, if he could go back in time, he would kill him when he was a baby.. and he said "hell yeah !".
but still wtf?

Sooo . . . we approach someone in a public situation, ask him a juvenile, trick question with no real world application, catch the first casual answer that comes out, and then freeze the person in the moment. Sounds reasonable. I'm not defending him, (because I have no political stake either way), but . . . just sayin'.

Your thoughts on the new Star Wars?
by Coded Logic inso i've thought for a while now that jj has the lowest bar to clear in cinema history.
all he has to do is make a movie that's not as bad as the prequels.
but upon viewing the recent trailers, it looks like he's actually got the "feel" of the originals down.

Coded Logic:
So you bought it too. Seriously, there is such a thing as a marketing campaign to appeal to a certain demographic, and this movie is a prime example of that in so many obvious ways. I'm not saying it's completely a bad thing, but I think its undeniable as well.
Simon:
I think you summed it up: there's a double standard when judging the two trilogies.

While I'm a little wary from the marketing campaign, which I find somewhat offensive and generic, I won't be able to truly judge the film until i see it, or maybe even after the whole sequel trilogy is complete. After all, some complained that Episode 1 didn't have enough 'traditional' story layout and formula, failing to realize it was the first act of the 'movie' that was the prequel trilogy. While I do love the original trilogy, it cant be denied that it was much more disjointed story wise, because some major elements were made up as they went along. -

You know what really grinds my gears? ;)
It's people saying it's an objective fact that the prequels were bad and then spouting the same lame 'reasons' that they're just parroting from online hipsters.
But seriously, there's a lot more going on beneath the surface of the prequels, and despite the ridicule of the uninformed, (or those blinded by nostalgia), nothing will change that.
As for The Force Awakens having the "feel" of the originals, I say hogwash. It has the "feel" of a modern blockbuster with all the trendy editing choices, over emoting and other trappings. It's the marketing campaign that's telling everybody that they're 'going back to the way things were', and a lot of people have actually bought into that.
Being hipster is something that definitely is new to the Star Wars movies, because Lucas's movies were more about trying new things and taking risks, not moving back to 35mm film and rubber puppets with strings. A lot of it strikes me as cliché, especially the x wings, tie fighters, stormtroopers, Darth vader-like villain, new death star . . . Its more like a Star Wars stereotype than the imaginative originality it used to be.
Am I excited about it? Are you kidding, I'm thrilled! I'm counting down the days to Episode VII! See, I know how to have fun and enjoy it 😁
The key is in seeing the movie for what it really is, through the marketing hype.

The oldest song that we still use, slightly reworked of course, is Jehovah is my Shepherd, by Harriet C. Swan in 1928. -

Never had a crazy JW-related dream until today
by onightdivine inin my dream a while ago, the wt had already started "encouraging" everyone to contribute 30. either it meant at least 30 hours of "preaching" or 30% tithe.
the next scene is when we all stood up for the opening song at the kh, and lo and behold - the opening lyrics went on like (this is vague but you'll understand the context anyway):.
what a privilege it is to serve the kingdom.

How do you have sex with a book study? Were you, like, doing it with everybody in attendance? Serious question 😋
